Pensiunan Jenderal Bintang Tiga TNI YOGIE SUARDI MEMET

Prabowo Subianto from his book, “Military Leadership Notes from Experience Chapter I: Exemplary Leaders of The Indonesian Armed Forces,” describes Pak Yogie as a member of the ’45 generation with a sympathetic face, sharp eyes, and a confident attitude. Pak Yogie was disciplined, erudite, fluent in foreign languages, and deeply patriotic.

During their first meeting, Pak Yogie emphasized the importance of respecting one’s parents and was known for his devoutness and efforts to curb unruly behavior in the Red Beret Corps.

Prabowo Subianto got to know Pak Yogie Suardi Memet after graduating from commando training at the Special Forces Education and Training Center (PUSDIKLATPASSUS) in Batujajar. As a Second Lieutenant, he reported to Brigadier General Yogie Suardi Memet, the KOPASSANDHA Commander at that time. Despite his stature, Pak Yogie had a commanding presence, was impeccably groomed, and exhibited physical fitness. He embodied the confidence and patriotism of the ’45 generation and was dedicated to eradicating vice in the Red Beret Corps.

Pak Yogie, a former Battalion Commander of 330 Kujang I Siliwangi, played a key role in capturing Kahar Muzakar in South Sulawesi during a DI/TII crackdown operation. He did not graduate from a Military Academy, as Indonesia had yet to establish one at the time of its independence. Instead, he completed the P3AD officer training program in Bandung, joining the ranks of distinguished alumni such as General L.B. Moerdani and Lieutenant General Dading Kalbuadi.
